B.J. Pinchbeck's Homework Helper
This directory was created by an 11-year-old, with his dad's help, and contains links to hundreds of helpful sites. The categories offered should cover every school subject and many topics of interest to young people.

Brain Teasers
Can something this fun and entertaining be an aid to learning math? Yes, because these brain teasers are mathematical tasks that require logical thinking. One new teaser for grades three through seven are posted each Wednesday, along with the previous week's answers.

Busy Teachers' Website K-12
Direct source materials, lesson plans/classroom activities and a categorized search.

Cascades Volcano Observatory Pictograms
These annotated photo stories combine photography with illustration and explanatory text to deliver their message. Choose from nineteen pictograms, mostly starring Mount Saint Helens before, during and after her big eruption in 1980.

Children's Literature Web Guide
Provides abstracts and other information about winners of the Newbery and Caldecott medals for children's literature. It includes the Publishers Weekly Children's Bestsellers list.

Cornell Theory Center Math and Science Gateway
A great clearinghouse of sorts, containing links to dozens of math and science education-related Internet resources for grades K-12.

Education by Design Kid's Activities
You will never guess that you are being educated at this lively site. There are great stories, poems, jokes and puzzles. Publish your own story here or test your math skills.

Encarta Schoolhouse: Topic Archive
The Topic Archive has articles and learning activities on a variety of subjects that should interest any student. The information is easy to understand and comes complete with pictures, so this would serve as a great resource for school projects.

Galaxy Education
This site has a range of topics. Including curriculum and instruction, instructional technology, financial aid, research grants and scholarships, guidance and counseling, and K-12 education.

Galaxy Page, The
An excellent site for anyone interested in the planets and the solar system. It could easily take two weeks to visit all the links from this site. Some of the links are graphic intensive so the load time is slow, but well worth the wait.

Jason Project, The
A collaborative effort of NASA and scientists to provide an interactive learning environment about science. Jason takes students to a rain forest, outer space and much more.

Kid's Door of Volcano World
Every so often I come across a site that delivers more than it promises. This is one of
those sites. Don't be fooled by the simple text menu with it's nondescript choices. Behind each selection is an array of interesting material. Be sure to visit Volcano Fun. What makes this site great? It's educational (you'll learn all about volcanos). It's animated (watch volcanos erupt). It's interactive (build your own volcano, and watch its pattern of eruption, or submit your own volcano artwork and stories). It doesn't take too long to download (it uses Java instead of slow loading graphics). And it's written for kids. If you're hankering for more, visit the "grownup" Volcano World .

Kid's Web
Guide points kids right to the interesting, useful stuff. Organized into obvious categories, listed links include one or two lines of description. More of a homework helper than a playground, it has a small section with comic strips, MUDs and crafts.

Knowledge Adventure Encyclopedia, The
With its new look and searchable index, getting homework help has never been easier. You can search for anything from allosaurus to zepplin in this encyclopedia designed for children.

Mega Math
Unusual and important math ideas for teachers.

Ocean Planet
This traveling exhibit from the Smithsonian is very comprehensive and can be viewed in several ways. One way is via the floor map which shows rooms devoted to exhibits such as Oceans in Perils, Sea People, and Ocean Science. Another is to take one of six curator tours, such as Women in the Sea, Biodiversity or Sea Surprises. Or wander on your own by browsing the complete exhibition outline, and clicking wherever your interests take you.

Science Friday Kids Connection
Once a week there is a new science experiment. Teachers can apply for a $500 grants to finance science equipment for their classrooms.

Travels with Samantha
Travels with Samantha is a travel show on the Internet that takes students to interesting destinations all over North America.

Wonka Factory
This animated playground created by Nestlé, was inspired by Dahl's Willie Wonka
character. In the science lab, you'll learn about the melting points of solids such as
chocolate, butter, sugar and ice. Or balance the acid and alkali levels in the sweet and sour candies. In the Inventonator, you can arrange musical machine parts to create a melody. All the games require Shockwave, and are designed for the under-ten set. Though obviously designed to sell their candies, the result is fun and educational.

World Lecture Hall
Contains links to pages created by faculty worldwide who are using the Web to deliver class materials. Including course syllabi, assignments, lecture notes, exams, class calendars, multimedia textbooks and more.
